Beat:Your:PB

sports science, research, training and performance

Hi everyone,

In 2010 the core focus on developing Beat:Your:PB was on launching our new training diaries/route planner functionality - don't forget here's the place to leave us feedback on this.

We're just in the process of planning how best to improve the site in 2011 - be great to get feedback from our core members...what else would you like to see on the site? what functions do you think don't work well?

Look forward to hearing your ideas

Best wishes

Still loving Beat your PB, and recommending it to my friends. One thing that does seem to have slowed down is the news and articles so picking up these would be good. Actually producing them is a tough ask so better to pull in from other sources.

One thing I've recently come across is paper.li which pulls together feeds from Twitter into a daily update, could be worth investigating how that could feed content to this site. And if not then look at the (now defunct) dailytriatlon site for how they pulled in content from other sites.
Hi Kevin,

Great feedback - you're right about the training articles - we'd love to be able to put a whole heap more training articles on the site and its purely a time/resource issue that's been the problem - we've been focussing all our time for the past few months on developing the training diaries/route planner which we're glad to see you're making good use of! Good idea re feeds etc - we'll do some investigating and please do send over any useful links you may come across.

Thanks for recommending the site to your friends - clearly it benefits us all the more active members we can get.

Best wishes

Ok so the daily triathlon twitter paper is http://paper.li/tag/Triathlon and other sites I keep an eye on fairly regularly (will probably include a lot of usual suspects) are
http://joefriel.typepad.com/blog/
http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/triathlete/
http://www.220triathlon.com/

Just realised after buying new running shoes that I don't track distance/gear so probably leave it too long before replacing. Any chance of adding a track gear tab in the training diary? Or is it there and I'm just missing it.

And it would be nice if there was a single log in for all the site, it seems to have been a long time having to log in to the route planner seperately.

Hi Kevin

Equipment is already there. 1) Click on the "My profile" in the RH column. Then click on "Equipment" tab and add; 2) When adding an activity, open up the "Advanced fields" and click on the "Equipment" drop down, select a piece of equipment and SAVE.

Re - single sign on; it's something were working towards but Ning (the software platform we use for the forums and articles) doesn't yet offer such a facility. If you use Firefox as your browser, when logging in, choose for Firefox to "remember" your login details and this will save you time next time you log in...

Julian,

Any chance of getting the 'techies' to produce an iphone app?

You could try the isocial app for iphone!

It looks ok'ish for the social networking aspect but I was thinking more about all the Training Zone, Routes etc functionality.

Regards

Gav

Hmmm, Isocial was built for Ning, so it won't work with Training Zone....

Hi Gavin,

We're working on our Training Zone mobile apps (iphone/android) as we speak...here's what's on the development roadmap for the rest of the year:

Event/race calendar

Facebook and Twitter share

Community features including comments, groups, forums, photos/videos and blogs.

Page creator & Article publisher

Mobile app (iphone/android)

Training upload: Timex, Suunto and more...

Training data import/export; inter-network data sync

HRM and power zones

Facebook App

Routes upgrade - 3D view; GPX import/export; alternative map sources.

International language editions

Hi Julian,

Sounds great. Really enjoying the site, you get used to what you're doing day-to-day so it's great to be able to look back over the days and weeks to see what you've actually achieved, scary!

Best Regards

Gav
