sports science, research, training and performance

I've got Windsor olympic tri coming up in a couple of months. Have focussed on getting back into running over the winter (my biking remains where i need it to be); just turning my attention to swimming now....question i have is what's the minimum do you think i can get away with in terms of swim sessions/volumes - with work being what it is at the moment, really need to be uber time efficient at the moment!

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Cheers

So what did you do, and was it enough? :-)

I'm working to a three session per week programme for each swimming/cycling/running discipline and it's working for me - all training geared towards peaking for Olympic Tri distance races in the summer.

Session 1: Endurance (for swimming this will generally be working up to a 2,000-2,500m swim. For cycling a 1.5-2hour bike ride. For running a 8-10mile run)

Session 2: Race tempo (for swimming this will be a session something like 300m repeats at race pace. For cycling/running a turbo/treadmill session, x4-6 5min intervals @ race MPH).

Session3: Power (for swimming this will be a session something like 50 or 100m repeats at above race pace. For cycling/running a turbo/treadmill session, x2-3 5min intervals @ above race MPH).

I track progression and adjust speed of sessions accordingly. One day rest per week.
