sports science, research, training and performance

Hi everyone,

We're very excited to announce we have launched our training diaries and route planner in BETA - what this means is that we're asking members to help us test the new software and report bugs, issues and IDEAS to improve.

PLEASE REPORT WHAT YOU FIND VIA THIS FORUM THREAD.

You can access the training diaries and route planner from the main navigation bar or via this link: http://beatyourpb.trainingdiaries.com/. At this stage, you will have to create a new login, but it's a very simple process.

Enjoy & we hope that this new functionality adds to your training experience!

Look forwards to hearing what you think...

My diary defaults to show all members - be better if it just showed my workouts. Suggest removing the All members option.

Stats center - Looks like the number of sessions is being doublecounted. Also the MPH calculation looks odd...although this maybe because its calculating all members and not just me - unclear?. Be great to have a "just me" option.

Great news functionality BTW and very easy sign up.
Odd entry in "workouts" for a weights session:

Be good when you rolover members avatar for their name to be displayed as an alt tag.

When view map, getting an "unresponsive script" message - taking 20-30secs to load a map.

Have set the map "Headley" to public but it's not showing up in "search"
Had a first go with training diary and only issue was finding map function to detail route. Also had to zoom out then back in to find my start point.

Actually mapping route was easier than the tool I'd been using (Mapmywalk) and preferred the system for adding a workout too (less cluttered).

I'll add more routes and workouts and let you know how I get on.
Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the feedback. Pleased you found the adding a workout easy to do - let us know if there are any missing fields...

Just checking, the issue with the maps was that you found it hard to find how to create a new route?

We're working on some upgrades so the map will preload on your general area based on your IP address - that should you to more easily find your start point...

Please do add some more workouts and keep the feedback coming!

Best wishes

Just wanted to say that having played a bit more and I'm now very happily using the route planner and the training diary. The map function centreing somewhere near Bath when I want to map a route in Sheffield was a bit odd but now when I map at home rather than work it does seem to be closer to my general area so that's improved thanks.

And it did take me a while to sort out my am and pm entries when running around noon, a few sessions look like I'm a midnight runner, but again now I think I've got the hang of it. Guess most of the problems are between the screen and the seat (me)!
Hi Kevin - Thanks for the feedback - glad you're using and getting used to the features. Please feel free to suggest any new feature ideas you may have...

We're working on some route upgrades so you're feedback is useful here - it might be that the map centred on Bath at work becausethat's where your work servers may be....

If you use a Gramin, we've just added functionality so you can upload Garmin files. Now we're working on Nike + and Polar...

Best wishes

Are you guys actually involved in developing new features? It would be great if one could Tweet or FB a workout. Also exporting routes/training as gpx/crs/tcx would be a nice option.

Hi Ronnie,

Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been away for a week. Yes I'm the Co-Founder of the Software Company behind the training zone; would be good to have a tel con sometime to discuss how you're finding things on DRR in more depth (can you PM me your number?)

Here's an outline of what's on the development roadmap for the remainder of this year - we have both of your requests covered:

Event/race calendar

Facebook and Twitter share

Community features including comments, groups, forums, photos/videos and blogs.

Page creator & Article publisher

Mobile app (iphone/android)

Training upload: Timex, Suunto and more...

Training data import/export; inter-network data sync

HRM and power zones

Facebook App

Routes upgrade - 3D view; GPX import/export; alternative map sources.

International language editions

Best wishes

JULIAN

Hi Julian,

That sounds awesome! Sharing activities on social networks would be a big improvement. Since our network is Ning based we are currently not looking for groups/forums etc on trainingdiaries, but I can imagine it would be great for new networks.

Ronnie

I was wondering if there is a possibility to create a route from an uploaded TCX file.
Hi Ronnie - we have a routes upgrade planned for Nov/Dec which includes an import/export facility for files such as GPX, TCX etc. We're also going to add in 3D route video player and a host of other enhancements.
