5 tips to help you focus your training towards a specific goal:

  • Thinking about what you want to achieve this year, are you targeting one or a series of events?
  • Decide on an objective for your targets and work out what you think you would need to be good at on the day to achieve that objective.
  • Get the help of a coach or a friend who is an experienced athlete, or consult a training manual and work out some specific training sessions that will train the things you need to be good at.
  • Try to train on the same terrain and in the same conditions as your key challenge.
  • Evaluate your weaknesses and try to identify things that will prevent you achieving the result or results you want. As above, work out some specific training sessions that will improve them.
